Welcome to Kōkenji

Kokenji is an old traditional Koyasan Shingon temple in the middle of the beautiful Mountains in Okayama Prefecture Japan. It is the only temple of the old Hatoji complex, which is still a place for Buddhist pratice.

If you like, you can stay overnight in our temple and you can take the chance to participate in the morning ceremony at 6:30 in the hondo of our temple and after breakfast you can set out for a long and relaxing hike in the wonderful nature here.

Japanese people know Kokenji, because of its famous and delicious soba meals (traditional Japanese buckwheat noodles).

In our temple we prepare soba noodles still in the old, traditional way, by hand.
